Sombo Wrestling Rules Scroll down for CombatSombo Wrestling Rules Sombo (Sambo/Cambo) is a Jacket Wrestling sport from Russia. It consists of throws, pins and submission by leg leg and arm lock. Competitions are fought in age groups, male and female, weight groups. Senior bouts are normally 5 minute duration, Junior bouts can be shorter. A match is conducted by a centre referee, mat judge and mat chairman. The centre referee will normally wear all white apparel with one arm blue, one red. A match starts and finishes on a whistle. The aim of Sombo is to defeat your opponent in as shorter period as possible by either submission, total victory throw or by points.

Wrestling Rules: Total Victory: Submission by Strangle, Choke, Arm lock, Leg Lock (Standing or on the ground) Throwing your opponent on his back and you remain standing.
Points Victory: 12pt margin i.e. 12 pts to Nil. Match finishes Highest Score at end of time.
Throws can score 4pts, 2pts and 1pt Hold down (Pin) 10 seconds 2pts 20 seconds 4pts. (Only one pin per match).
Matches will be of 2 x 3 minute rounds. On entering groundwork competitors have 30 seconds to reach a pin position or be in a submission position. Once the painful hold signal is given they have 1 minute to gain the submission.
CombatSombo Wrestling is based on the original idea of Russian Sambo (Self defence without weapons). Which was taught to the Soviet Military in the 1930’s. This is a military system designed to train soldiers for the battlefield not the street. The concept was to dispatch your opponent as quick as possible and incapacitate them as quickly as possible hence the limited time on the floor.
