NEW COMBATSOMBO CLASSES IN SITTINGBOURNE STARTS MONDAY NIGHT AT 8.15pm JUNE 5th SWALE MARTIAL ARTS CLUB 127 EAST STREET SITTINGBOURNE COMBATSOMBO Player wear Kurtka (Jacket) Shorts, Sombo boots, Head guard, MM Gloves, Shin and Instep. Judo/Sombo/Kurash experience is not essential but helpful. Players must be 16 years and over This was my first experience on seeing a competitive COMBAT SAMBO tournament and I must admit I was not expecting a great deal, I thought it would just be another form of ULTIMATE FIGHTING which I am not a great lover of. I was in for a pleasant surprise, the competitors where the same costume as a Sombo Wrestler plus headgear, gloves and shin and instep. The rules are the same accept you can strangles as well, a standing count of 8 gets you 3pts and a knockout gives you a win. Therefore the rules favour grappling and striking becomes just a means of entry this couple with the fact that it was on a mat not in a ring or cage made the whole thing a lot more safer, during the whole tournament I only saw one knockout and one standing count of 8. What I did see was some really high throws and some really powerful arm and leg locks, this is certainly a spectator sport. Many of our lads said why can not we do it in the UK, as I explained I own the COMBATSOMBO trade mark and would sue anyone who tried to use it without my permission (which I have done successfully in the past) At present my insurance company will not insure Sport CombatSombo events but training in this style of grappling is part of the CombatSombo Syllabus Coach, Sombo Grandmaster Martin Clarke.
